It’s easy to get caught up in the noise and the competing rhythms of life.
Leadership is the ability to hear the underlying rhythm that connects us. It’s about leading people through the noise and enabling them to find their groove.
Whether in our work or personal life we are always dancing with others. But it was not until I started to actually dance that I saw the connection. Dancing opened up a whole new world of insights.
The first time I stepped onto the dance floor I realised that there was nowhere to hide. I had to be myself, no matter how uncomfortable it felt. I was terrified at the thought that I would have to lead my partner while everyone was looking. There was so much noise inside my head. My first thought was to run. But despite my fear, I continued the effort, owned my mistakes, and gradually found my rhythm.
There is something raw and pure about dancing. The unfiltered interaction with people, the in-the-moment feedback and improvisation make you show up genuinely. There is no room to act or pretend. You have to be fully present and fully yourself with all your skills and faults. And people are drawn to this.
It took years for me to overcome my inner noise, accept myself, and connect with others without fear.
If any of this resonates, whether you’re stepping into leadership for the first time or have been at it for years, I’d love to connect. Find me on Linkedin.
